Video: Boss 302 and Camaro ZL1 headline Forza Motorsport's August Car Pack

Forza Motorsport 4 August Car Pack

Once upon a not so long ago, I owned a 1971 Lincoln Continental Mark III. If the cruiser from the B52's infamous "Love Shack" really was as big as a whale, the Conti was the ocean in which that mighty Chrysler swam. I held the title for roughly 13 years, and in that time, I got the car sideways exactly once.

Now, I was certainly no newcomer to ass-out antics when this scenario played out, but I found myself woefully under-prepared for the combination of feather-light steering, neglected bushings, flimsy sidewalls and the sinister abundance of mass that I unleashed on that unsuspecting intersection one spring night.

Traffic cleared, the secondaries on the Holley 750 double pumper opened up and all 500 lb-ft of torque from the 460 under the hood spilt the rear tires' guts onto the asphalt in a smoky sacrifice to glory. Momentum piled on as I struggled to swing the tiller from starboard to port and keep the craft out of either ditch. Even amidst the curses and 7,000 turns to lock, I was vaguely aware of the four girls in the back seat impersonating a Newton's Cradle as they slid across the green leather rear bench with each wag of the tail lamps.

I tell you this for one very simple reason. Turn 10 Studios has just released the August Car Pack for Forza Motorsport 4, and while the DLC is packed with sexy hardware like the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, Ford Mustang Boss 302, Scion FR-S and Sauber-Mercedes C9, there really is only one car to care about in the mix: a 1962 Lincoln Continental. Check out the full teaser video below, and pony up $7.00 in XBox Live points if you too want to try taming the Conti.

Lotus hopes rest on strategy – Boullier

Lotus boss Eric Boullier believes his team's best hope of beating Lewis Hamilton to victory in the Hungarian Grand Prix will depend on its tyre management - because its car does not have the outright pace to edge clear of McLaren. Hamilton has been in dominant form over the Hungaroring weekend, and ended up four tenths clear of Romain Grosjean to secure his first pole position since the Malaysian Grand Prix. That form has left Boullier in no doubt about where his team's car stacks up against McLaren – but that opportunities do still exist for it to triumph

Webber ‘had to’ make three stops

Red Bull team principal Christian Horner said his team had no option but to put Mark Webber on to a three-stop strategy, because a differential problem with the car meant his tyre wear increased dramatically. Webber's hopes of challenging higher up were dashed when he was hit with the differential failure late in the race - and that problem resulted in more wheelspin which increased his tyre degradation. That led to the team electing to give him a late stop for tyres - even though in theory the better strategy was to stick to a two-stopper

SpecRacer Ford “Graduates” for Season 3

The Season 3 iRacing schedule brings something old back into the fold again as the SpecRacer Ford Challenge series re-emerges as the newest and most affordable series at the D-Class license level. Long-time iRacers may remember the SpecRacer Ford Challenge as the Advanced Rookie series prior to the formation of the current inRacingNews Challenge.  The SpecRacer Ford has been an iRacing staple for years, serving first as the lone Advanced Rookie car in the SpecRacer Ford Challenge series, then later paired with the Pontiac Solstice to form the Advanced Rookie inRacingNews Challenge series. The MX-5 Roadster was added to the inRacingNews Challenge series in late 2011, which made for an interesting three-way multiclass series that ultimately became rather crowded for fans of the smaller and slightly more fragile SpecRacer Ford, [...]

Mercedes pinpoints long corner deficit

Mercedes has blamed a lack of performance in the long corners at the Hungaroring as the main cause of its struggles over the Hungarian Grand Prix weekend. Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg delivered the team's worst qualifying performance of the year with neither driver making it in to Q3 - and their difficulties have left the outfit downbeat about its chances for the race. Team principal Ross Brawn said neither driver could get their cars handling right for the five 180-degree corners on the Hungaroring

Report: Would you be upset if Chicago moved your car without asking? [w/poll]

Filed under:

Chicago Tow Truck (by Tripp)

Chicago Kafkaesque system for moving vehicles to clear space for municipal work or TV/movie production is not working as advertised. In theory, it's straightforward: the city tows someone's car to an out-of-the-way parking space to make room and enters the new location into a database within 20 minutes of the move. Drivers looking for their cars can call 311 or go online to find out if their car has been relocated. In practice, it's typical big-city municipal Hell.

The problem, says the Chicago Tribune, is that the relocation info doesn't always make it into the system in a timely manner. Not only can it take more than 20 minutes, but some residents didn't realize the city had moved their cars until the Tribune called them and told them, weeks later. The city of Chicago says that it posts notices giving residents at least 24 hours warning when possible, but sometimes an emergency means that there's no warning.

Some residents report instances of no notice being given even when there should have been. As a result, there are owners who have reported their cars stolen when, in fact, they were merely relocated and never properly recorded by city employees. After filing police reports, canceling insurance, etc., their cars are eventually "found" and the mix-ups are cleared up. Sure, the car owners are happy to get their rides back, but there has to be a better way to handle the matter of vehicle relocation, as the reporting process is, at best, inconsistent.

The Tribune says 17,000 cars were moved last year. How many of those were lost in the system is not known. Chicago officials say they plan to provide car owners with additional advance notice via posted signs and an early warning system that details when work is scheduled to occur in the city's neighborhoods. For the moment, however, know that if your car goes missing in The Windy City, it might not be because of bad guys.

What's your take on Chicago's policy? Keep reading to weigh in on the poll we've posted below.

2012 Mercedes-Benz C350 4MATIC Coupe Tested: All-Weather Traction, No Efficiency Penalty

We’ve previously compared Porsche’s model lineup to the Taco Bell menu in the way that the engine and chassis components are mixed and matched across the lineup. But Porsche is not alone in this approach. Mercedes-Benz—perhaps to an even greater extent—also drops a multitude of engine and powertrain fillings into its various chassis shells. The [...]

New Mercedes to join Superstars

Superstars racer Nico Caldarola is set to switch cars to a brand-new Mercedes C63 AMG coupe for the next round of the series in Septemeber. Caldarola, who runs the Roma Racing Team, and has raced the saloon version of the C63 AMG so far this year, gave his new machine its maiden test at the San Martino del Lago track in Italy and was happy with the results. "We would have loved to make it debut earlier," said Caldarola

Allmendinger suspended indefinitely

AJ Allmendinger's suspension from NASCAR has turned from temporary to indefinite after the test of his 'B' sample drew a positive result for a prohibited substance. The 30-year-old Californian first tested positive earlier this month following a random test performed at Kentucky Speedway, which resulted in Allmendinger's suspension before the Daytona NASCAR Sprint Cup round a week later. Allmendinger had the right to request a 'B' sample to be tested, which he duly did, the test taking place on Tuesday with the driver expected to have his own specialists as witnesses.

2014 Mazda 6 Revealed in Photos, Will Debut in Moscow Next Month

When a photo of the 2014 Mazda 6 leaked on a Russian car-enthusiast website, it raised a few eyebrows. Mercedes ‘needs to find half a second’

Mercedes is lacking around half a second of laptime compared to the frontrunners, and must find that performance if it is to return to winning ways. That is the view of Mercedes-Benz motorsport boss Norbert Haug, who thinks that while the Brackley-based outfit has made considerable progress this year it is still not at the level it needs to be.

Binder Secures Sprint Car Title At Irwindale

Irwindale Speedway holds a distinguished spot in the hearts of sprint racers. Within the ranks of iRacing, it is widely considered to be one of the best tracks in the schedule for the sprints, as well as being difficult to master. As the iRacing.com Sprint Car Series moved into Irwindale for the season finale, sim-racers knew this was the last chance to make a showing for themselves. For Alan Binder, who held a 43 point lead over two-time iSCS champion Vinnie Sansone, this was his time to shine once again. In Week 12 of the iSCS, attendance was up as 76 entries materialized for the week’s seven online races that went official. In a series that is used to an average of 3-4 races per week, the sight of so [...]

Report: Honda to phase out Accord in the UK?

Honda sells six model lines in the UK: the Accord, Civic, CR-Z, CR-V, Insight and Jazz. Three of those, the Civic, CR-V and Jazz, are made at Honda UK Manufacturing's facilities in Swindon, while the Accord, CR-Z and Insight are built in Japan. The hybrids are niche models that don't fit in the mass-market pipeline, but that's not the case with the Accord. According to a story in Autocar, pressures on Accord sales due to its assembly location and European market tastes have lead Honda to declare that the next generation might not make it to the UK.

The strong Japanese yen has pressured the profits of every export model built there. But exerting even more pressure than that on the Accord are the European market's moves to small SUVs and to cars with a lower CO2 tax. Autocar says the Accord is down to about 2,500 sales per year. By comparison, the D-segment Vauxhall Insignia sold 2,949 units in May alone. Admittedly there will be brisk business and fleet sales bolstering that number, but the essentially five-year-old Nissan Qashqai moved 4,775 units in June. If Honda can't figure out a solution to bolster the Accord's UK fortunes, it might take a break from the 'sceptered isle.

Teased: 2014 Mazda6 teased in high resolution

We've seen a quadruplet of teaser videos of the 2014 Mazda6, the most recent of which showed off the car's (nearly complete) side profile. Now, thanks to the slippery fingers at Russian site AutoWP, this high-resolution image of the new midsize sedan has leaked onto the internet, clearly showing the sharp new front fascia.

If that new schnoz looks familiar, it's because the new Mazda6 will use the same Kodo design language first seen on the Takeri concept car and later brought into the production world on the 2013 CX-5 crossover. We certainly like it more than the Sir Smiles-A-Lot Nagare styling that has graced the last generation of Mazda vehicles.

Under the hood, Mazda will likely employ its 2.0-liter Skyactiv inline four-cylinder engine mated to six-speed transmissions. The Japanese automaker will be employing its 2.2-liter Skyactiv-D diesel engine in other markets, and while Mazda has confirmed that the oil-burning mill will make its way Stateside at some point, it's still unknown if it will show up in the Mazda6 or another vehicle like the CX-5.

Look for the 2014 Mazda6 to officially bow at the Paris Motor Show this September.
